Back in 1998 we were both working as Senior Managers in asset finance for NWS Bank plc, part of the Bank of Scotland Group. We were both 30, had been talking about setting up a company for a while and decided that if we were going to do it we had to do it now. We met one evening in London for drinks and decided to go for it. It was a gamble, we were working for a large organisation where we had both done extremely well and were on a fast-track career path owing to our sales & management abilities.
Both of us knew that we wanted the business to be based in London. Holborn fulfilled our business needs; the tube station has two of London’s major lines running through it, making it easy to get out and see our clients regardless of their location.
We hired a managed office, bought 2 computers and we were off, quickly realising we’d made the right decision; new clients appreciated having an independent finance broker who actually wanted to get out of the office and visit them to learn about their business and better understand their needs. After a successful six months we decided to make a move from the managed office and sign a lease for our own space and become an employer.
Since 1998 we have built a solid business with an excellent client base and a network of good personal relationships with some of the best commercial lenders, both well-established and new-to-market. We continue to be committed to meeting with new clients and always welcome the chance to get out of the office to discuss our clients’ capital expenditure (and grab a coffee).Duncan & Andrew
